our chain stores in Australia are a bit different and generally speaking pretty limited with scrapping supplies. Had a customer come in the other day and tell me how excited that she was to get some thickers for Spotlight at 20% off but was chasing some other colours - we had them and when she paid for them she realised our everyday price was 20% less than Spotlights 20% off sale. When she asked why I said the answer is easy - little shops have lower overheads than the big guys

My biggest money saving tip - know your prices because %off sales are not always the cheaper alternative, and only put the really expensive embellishments on those extra special pages

My advice...shop at your locally owned independent retailer you get much better sales service and afterwards service and 9 times out of 10 you getting a better deal - this goes in any retail

Since we did a stint at DFO and the spotlight staff found us there, three of the spotlight store shop attendants now shop with us. Screams volumes. In fact one of my customers was in there the other day looking for something and one of the staff actually asked if she had been to the Babinda shop yet and did a big rave for us. That was kinda cool

Lee-Anne my thought on that is why would you go to spotlight if you can go to a scrapbooking store? Spotlight don't carry that much and not the good stuff either.

Totally agree but some of the locals won't travel 45 minutes to go to the most awesome scrapbooking/craft store in FNQ. Meanwhile, when I was living in Victoria last year it was taking me 60-90 minutes to travel to work EACH WAY and EVERYDAY! My reasoning is if I can travel that distance for work everyday, I sure don't mind travelling 45 minutes once every few weeks for something I love. I feel kind of sad if I have to go to Spotlight to buy something in between trips to Babinda now...

I don't have a local scrap store here..well there is but its soooo expensive and has never had what I want. I think I've only ever purchased a couple of loose flowers from there and once I got some brads there.

I'm afraid I just don't like spotlight. I wish I lived in Babinda.

I go to Spotlight to buy fabric or sheets because thats what I think of when I think 'Spotlight' - but I always walk through the scrapbooking isle to have a look -and thats what I do......walk through - there's nothing I would buy.
And..... my spotlight store is 5 mins walk from my house.... 1min in the car!

Yeah I have to admit I like spotlights fabric, but not keen on the scrappy stuff. I only go there if I'm desperate for DST.

I agree, Mandy and Annette! I go to Spotty for yarn and fabric, stroll the scrapping aisle, but hardly ever buy scrappy stuff there. I would much prefer to go to a scrapbook shop as you get a better range and they are cheaper!
