| Post subject: | May 2011 - Scrap Ahead.......... |
It's scrap time again, girls. This time I've been playing with left overs from my MME papers and using strips. (I think I realllllllly need to take note of Tiff's photography tips.....this photo's looking a bit "skew-wiff".) ![]() Firstly I gathered a base page and other bits of left overs that I thought would all blend together with the base. (Can you see I have kept the bottoms of the pattern paper coz they have nice little strips on them showing a sample of the reverse side......handy and some have brackets.....handy as well.) ![]() For my base paper I am usingSo Sophie "birds of a feather" reliable paper and I have simply swiped some paint over it to start with. I also added some mist on the areas without the paint but forgot to take a photo. (oops) You could use cardstock for your base as well. ![]() You will need to gather 4 bundles of strips......the first bundle are the little strips that are on the bottom of the MME paper....these ones are mainly from the Penny Lane and Breaking Free range with a couple of strays. I've inked the edges of these. These will sit behind your photo. The second bundle are smaller strips which I have randomly stamped a script stamp over. (Later on I ended up spraying a light mist over this as well) These will form a little weaved embellie. The third bundle are longer strips which I have sanded and you will need a scrap of card as these will form your title. And the fourth bundle is just little journalling strips preferably a light colour and all the same paper - I have just drawn a little border around these. ![]() Firstly we will make a start on the little weaved embellie using the strips that I have stamped over. Simply lay them out spaced apart a little and start weaving. You will need to put a spot of glue on some of them particularly the first row to keep them all together. ![]() Then you need to trim it up a little just randomly snipping off the tails. ![]() Now onto our title. These are the long sanded strips......simply glue these onto your scrap of card making sure they are glued pretty well. (making the strips from scraps of ribbon makes for a great title too just remember to draw your title on the back of the card coz your pen will probably "bleed" onto the ribbon). ![]() Then when it is very dry you can either freehand your title or use a stencil to mark out your title. Try to keep it all in line iykwim.....don't go all over the place coz your stripes won't match up. ![]() Then cut out your letters and I've inked around mine. ![]() Now I've chosen a few other little bits and pieces to use for embellies......cut out a heart, fussy cut a branch from a scrap I had and cut out the brackets from the strip along the bottom of the MME papers. ![]() Now to start putting it all together. I've laid the first lot of strips (the ones cut from the strip on the bottom of the patterned paper) placing them up and down (unlevel) across the page. Your photo will go over this part. I've then machine stitched over the strips and across as well. ![]() To the side of that I have put my title. ![]() To my little weaved embellie I have added the heart matted on corrugated card and an added bit of twine and placed all this on a paper doily. ![]() Then I have added my branch and placed my journalling strips amongst it. ![]() Just under the photo (or piece of 6x4 paper lol) I have added my brackets, some lace and little flowers to the side and placed little punched out butterflies around the layout. ![]() So there is another LO using up some scraps and perhaps waiting for that right photo to come along or perhaps you can work your LO around a photo that is waiting to be scrapped- perhaps a Mother's Day one. Have fun. |

Has anyone had a play with "strips" this month? I'd love to see what you have created. |
