found a string of 250 coloured LED lites in Kmart the other day. Guess what I'm doing tonight when its darker!!!!!???????

I've only my son home tonight and he kindly help model our new string of Christmas lights.



Tripod.
2 second Timer delay.

I held a little LED torch from above the camera and above my head height to light up his face.

He was very patient with me wrapping him up and then unwrapping him. And the best thing, no knots in the the string of lights.

OMGoodness, Tiff this is fabulous - a little scary but fabulous.

he had so much fun with it. He felt like a robot (go figure), but as long as he felt the fun factor, it's a winning idea - at least in my book.

wow - I wish I could do this!!! got to try!

had a go with the tinlids last night. I wrapped a string of 200 LED lights around a photoframe. To save time and angst I doubled the string of lights so I only had to wrap it around the frame half as many times.

I had the camera on manual, Tripod and used a remote trigger to stop camera shake as the shutter was very slow.
settings were
ISO 200
f2.8 to have max light come thru the lens to have a quicker shutter.
0.8 of a second shutter.

DS just couldn't sit still enough for this to work very well. In hindsight I would have upped the ISO to get the shutter quick enough. As is was I decided on a different tack and asked him to move the frame around in small circles. I also had to slow the shutter down so I moved the f stop up to f8 to let in less light = longer shutter speed to get the correct amount of exposure and to have the little lights leave a trail in the image.

If you don't have a tripod, don't fret. (ask for one for Christmas) It's a good investment in yourself. Otherwise, sit the camera on a chair, or a pile of books or on a step stool. Whatever you have on hand as a steady surface.

If you don't have a remote shutter trigger, don't fret (another good idea for Christmas). I have a generic one on a cord to the camera, it was much cheaper than the canon brand one, and does the exact same functions). Use your 2second timer until you get one, so you don't have camera shake issues.

above all, have fun, and even get the kids to take pics of you with the lights.....if it's fun for them, they'll want to do it again the next time you ask

Wow..what FUNKY photos...I love the one of your son wrapped up in lights, Tiff..hehe..what a character. What suggestions do you have for taking pics of lights with a point and shoot camera?

I've been trying to get enthusastic about Christmas here..but it's all just kinda stressing me out! For years the kids and I have bought a live tree from St. John's ..they are available usually in mid-December..and that seems to help kick start some excitement. And then they decorate it.

I would like to hang those icicle lights around our front porch so hoping I can pick up some of sale from The Warehouse, before Christmas...
