agree with you for the snowman. They are both a little bit blurry, but the first one is less so.....I reckon you may have to take half a step back and let the camera zoom in on him, rather than you be too close. Looks like the focus couldn't quite grab it to make it sharp.... and/or reposition him on a low branch and rest the camera on a chair, stack of books or something to have that as still as you can.
good going chook. well done. Is there a special story with them?
I'll take some more of the snowman tomorrow. Did you see the snow flakes on page 1?
Yes..there is. I have been involved with a small online Christian womens forum for several (6-7?) years now. These are gifts from the board administrator in last Christmas's ornament exhange I joined in with.

I wonder if you'd mind having another go. with a smaller fstop number so you can blur the background more. The branches behind do take away from the loveliness of the snowflake details. I gather this is taken outside on a shrub?? Top idea for lighting. Just watch the background details like the stems that form leading lines out of the shot. If the ornament can be held further away from the background, that helps the background to blur more as well as using the smaller fstop number. The greenery does provide a strong contrasting colour.
Julez. you are on the right setting. well done. that will be the lowest f stop your camera can go. That being the case, if you move your snowflake away from the background a bit, that should do the trick.
even if you held the ribbon by hand in front of the bush (rather than hang it within the bush) or by a coat hanger or some other imaginative way you will get a more effective shot. Just be sure to focus on the jewel in the center. It looks a bit like an eye and the lines of the snow flake draw your eye to the jewel.
I do see what you mean, tiff...and agree about the darker greenery...it does look more Christmasy. I stood in front of some conifers growing out by our front fence. Would you use the same greenery b/g for Mr. Snowman?
