I had a go at shooting Christmas lights with my son wrapped up in them today. This was in response to a question from samiam. you can find her question here.
digital photography school is a wonderful aussie resource that is my first go to www to find out any how to's .....
how about using the settings that I've given on the attachment and have a go. you could use this with candles or a dim touch shined on a book that your child is reading. have a go. I encourage you to post it on this thread so I can help you with any issues that you may have.
Be very aware you are playing with electricity so take due care and be aware the lights may generate heat.
go on....nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Oh Joy! thanks so very much! i've totally got to get this under my belt before next chrissy, how awesome is you pic with your boy! LOVE IT!
and what fantastic links! how cool are all the different photos on christmas lights! Incredible! i so love the baba holding the lights you can see the wonderment in his/her eye! so awesome! Thank you!
you can use these settings as well for the birthday cake candles. take a shot of the child (being still if possible )with the cake in front and the light from the candles should be enough to light them up. and then let them blow out the candles.
Just giving this one a little boost girls - July is a good time to start thinking about getting ready for Christmas with photos etc - cool time of the year so Santa suits etc are not itchy to wear and these light shots would be a little better than when the weather is stinking hot

I'm aiming to collect another string of lights this year and have a go with both the kids wrapped up in them. So I will be posting another image here soon.
