HI Tiff

Any great tips on getting that perfect sunset photo :D please :D !!!

We are of to Broome on the 16th July and the first 3 nights are when the staircase to the moon should happen!!! Really want to get some great photos so any tips would be fabulous.

We have a Canon 1000D SLR camera.

Thanks

Hey Belinda. You've just taught me something!!!! I had to google what the stair case to the moon was. Mwah. I love learning new things.

and

how lucky are you to be at the Prime spot for it.

Firstly. TRIPOD is a must. If you have a remote trigger for your camera, rather than pressing the shutter button, use it. If you dont have the trigger then use the 2 second delay timer on camera.

I've forgotten what sort of camera you have B?? Could you quickly list the make and model of it.

then I can advise further.

ok. you've got a good camera for the job.

take it with you tomorrow when shopping with your big zoom lens on it.

make sure the tripod is sturdy and will handle the weight of the camera and lens without vibrating at all.

With your shots on the night, keep the tripod as low as you can to minimise movement. I would even have the legs sitting in the edge of the water if you are able to get to that point without being bogged in the mud flats. I would suggest you were your oldest clothes as you might get muddy and definitely wear rubber boots. big tall ones. (you'll be a fashion piece). and a jacket with big pockets (zipped ones if you can). You may not have anywhere to put a camera bag down if you are on the mud. Put your remote trigger, batteries and anything else you need in your pockets.

You can wash the tripod legs with water after, let dry overnight and spray with CRC. I do mine everytime I stick mine in the sea.

Tip. extend the bottom legs just a little so the locks for the legs arent in the mud (sand) etc.

And get your manual and read up on Live View Functions and how to focus with it. This is critical to get the sharpest focus. And without overwhelming yourself 'mirror lockup' as well.

And you have time to practise so make sure you do. You'll be in dim light when the moon rises so you'll need to know your way around the camera in the dark or take a little pocket torch with you. (another thing to put in those big pockets.)

Hope I haven't bombed you with too much info. Just take one paragraph at a time, master that instruction, and then do the next one.

cheers

I'm thrilled that you caught something.

I keep a little LED torch in my camera bag and in my shooting jacket so I always have one.

Yeah. I have a shooting jacket. It's my DH spare lightweight rain jacket and it has huuuuugggggeeeeee zip pockets so I can stash stuff safely in them and leave the bag behind.

Very handy.
