And this was something alternative of the same scape that I played with - wanted to bring that pretty grass in the foreground into focus

what a misty visa. The half a sign on the left is a bit distracting and the top part of the blade of the main turbine is missing. I can see that you're trying to capture as much as you can in the one shot. Personally I would have climbed up to the fence to get that out of the shot (was it an electric fence?? be mindful of them!!). I would have positioned the camera between the wires of non electric fences or straddled the fence or stand just on the inside of it. I would have squatted down and pointed the camera up a bit to get the tips of the blade in and have the base of the tower. I might have tried it in the portrait position as well just to see how it looks. And I might have turned myself slightly to the left so the main turbine is more on the right side of frame and lose some of that low lying cloud which is hiding half of the hillside.

lovely greens tho!!

This is a bit of a nothing sort of shot. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to be looking at the trunk of the tree, the reeds or that shadow of a branch that happens to look like a snake. You need to give something more importance in the shot so its the main focal point of interest.

however this one.....

is much more interesting as you've got down on your knees for a different perspective, you've open up your aperture so the foreground is in more focus (small f number = smaller amount in focus) so the reeds are the first thing I see, and there's enough detail in the background to give it a sense of place. That same tree is great in this background as the bark contrasts so well against the greenery. I LOVE it!!!!

I've learnt that you had the camera on a bucket to keep it steady, that this was taken after sundown and its a long exposure. I can see this as a sqaure crop so you lose all the needless foreground that is also out of focus. I gather the timing was out of your control but this would be just amazing in the dawn light while the air is still cool to see the mist rise and maybe have it all lit up by the golden ray of sun..... great to see you having a go, improvising and having a play.

I can see you're thinking about the shot and setting up the camera to get it happening. That's called Pre-visualisation. A very strong tool to learn.

oh and
I forgot the falls shots - I have a few of these - they were big falls and hard to get all in the shot so I looked for the interesting parts

The things you find when you go looking for old photos

This was taken a few years ago in Munich

It may not be "correct" but I like this one even with the out of focus foreground it make me think of elves and fairies. :)
Love the Munich Photo

ahhhhh. I like this one better. More of the spring and the steam and less of the uninteresting dirt in the foreground.

now I know why you want to know about 'that milky' technique. This is nice. What settings did you use (curious).

not knowing where you were standing or what was just in front of you, but I gather you couldn't see the bottom of the falls or get down to that bottom level to shoot up??? Just thinking of different perspectives.

this is awesome. Its nearly a duotone, meaning BW with a hint of colour, in this case blue. I like that its off centre as its far more interesting and what a moment to have those ducks (?) fly thru. I really love it. Dramatic and different.
