Hi Janey,
I've got a Bigshot & I love it! I had a cuttlebug for a while, but I broke it (trying to emboss some thick chipboard, didn't think to change the thickness of the plates I used with it - oops!). I find the bigshot a lot more sturdy - not so portable though, it's quite heavy & doesn't fold up. But as someone who mostly scraps at home anyway, that doesn't bother me.
I was torn between the Big Shot and the Cuttlebug. In the end I bought my cuttlebug (which I mainly use for embossing).
My decision was made based on size and compactibility, the fact that we live in a small unit in Sydney and my craft stuff takes up a lot of the space my husband and I have. We have a living room/computer room/craft room combo, 2 bedrooms (one of which is my massage treatment room and also doubles as spare room when our kids visit) a bathroom, a kitchen and foyer/hallway area - fortunately we have the high ceilings of the art deco era, so it does not seem quite so small but we do not have much floor space.
The first cutting machine I bought was the making Memories slice but it is not overly convenient even tho it is compact, so I do use some cutting dies in my cuttlebug now.
now what machine (that can fit into my compact life) can I look at for next Christmas???
oh that one is easy Deb - once you have a cutting machine Dies, Embossing Folders and more dies - no-one will ever have an excuse not to know what to get you for Christmas again
With small compact space availability you cant go post spellbinders

Nesties are so much easier to store than punches! I love my cuttlebug and haven't had any problems with it yet. I picked up a small bag so it's easy to take with me if I'm scrapping at a friend's place.
I have a craft robo which I've been told by several people is absolutely wonderful. Haven't really used it.....for lack of experimenting. Maybe I should read and watch the DVD
Thanks everyone, I ended up getting a Big Shot which my husband and kids gave to me as a birthday pressie. I love it, still working it all out, but having fun playing.
