the secret to good clean BW is to not have too many colours in the original shot and don't have primary colours side by side as one tends to disappear into the other.

again the focus is on the eyes and I've used flash to produce catchlights to bring the eyes to life.

Hi everyone great photo. Love the photo of Romeo. I have a question how do you not get light in the glasses? Your picture of your daughter and horse is great and there is no refelection or light specks in the glasses, how do you do that???? I have a photo to put up too but I will later on when I remember how to do it.

in regard to the glasses, it's usually all a bit of luck. perhaps the young lady was on just the right angle not to get the reflection of the flash.

or Julez has cleverly cloned the reflection out.

I usually ask people if they want their glasses on or off. If the person is unsure, I usually then ask what would they prefer if they looked back on the photo in 5 years time. Glasses on or off?? That is usually a decider for them.

nice shot of your daughter. when someone looks off to the middle distance off camera it gives a little air of mystery.

just watch your backgrounds. try moving yourself or your subject (if you can) with a less distracting background, or use a smaller f stop number (wider arpeture) to blur the background right out so the subject becomes isolated from it. You need to really focus on the eyes with the smaller f stop number as parts of your daughter may blur a bit too.

you've done quite well. Your niece (??) is well lit with the background understated so it's compliments her honey coloured hair. Prehaps if she could have stepped one step further away from that wall, and you step one step back as well (if possible), that would blur the background just that bit more. The two little pinpricks of light on the left side is a little distracting.

Hey...I "normally" get reflective-glare from taking photos of Rosie...this is the first time I didn't! She must have been just at the right angle, as I have done NO touching up to this pic.
