yes... have you got mists?
Experiment... first... cos, I've sprayed mist and then gesso-ed and the mist colour filtered through...and dyed it... did that with blues, you can do other way round too. And you can paint a colour over gesso and then rub it back to reveal some white - in a shabby way.

My advice - pretend the Navy is Red and use if with a dark forest green the way you would Red with Green - add a couple of silver highlights - trees, Noel cut outs etc - quick and easy.

Maybe we should all do a quick one week challenge to use Navy card as the base for Christmas to help you out with ideas

All very helpful, thank you. I'd love to see what everyone else could come up with.

So far I've pulled out the offcuts pizza box, swiped silver paint around a card face and around another piece that's slightly smaller than face of the card. Have quite a few stamps, so might stamp (silver?) a greeting or similar.

No doubt it will take me a few goes to get to something acceptable. I'll post photos of my experiments lol.

I see navy and white. Paint or maybe some white doilies with a twine and flower wreath.

I'm liking the sound of the white. Hmm white paint swiped on the card in the shape of a tree, greeting stamped on card, mounted .... We could be on to something!

Weeeeellll, of course, once I started, everything went in a different direction.

Progress so far - 40 cards swiped with silver paint (shows up as grey in the photos), 9 of them ready for inserts. Happy with that for one afternoon - but of course I have used some card fronts I had sitting around.

the beauty of scrapping BW photos is that you can choose whatever range of colours, brand or product you like because you are not restricted by the colour in the image.

I do find here has a good source of colour palettes to choose from

hope that's a good jump off point for you.

I know that this was posted last year but I do have a suggestion for all that struggle with color combos. Take yourself off to the hardware store and go to the paint section collect your paint chips in the color combos that tickle your fancy, Even the big charts are a help. The chips that have about 3 to 5 colors on them I punch a hole in one corner and put a ring through. the big chart I just look at and match colors to card stock. I may not be really accurate but it gives you an idea of what goes with what and it doesn't cost you anything. Not only that you can add to it at any time if your color likes change but still have a selection of others to choose from.

I'm pretty sure when I started doing those card faces, it was based on a hint or project on this board. It became my own little exercise in OCD, according to my DH    I couldn't stop - just pick a range of colours out of the offcuts, make a card face, see what's left and add something complementary, make another card face etc etc etc   I really did get stuck on it for awhile. And voila! lots of pieces ready for my Christmas cards! I'll be back to something plainer once I run out of them, of course.

Pussycat!! What fabulous suggestion!! I forgot about the paintchips... they are great for a whole range of things.

Weeeell Helen, I really do love anything that uses up scraps! And I hear you on getting 'stuck' on things.... so get that!!
